Feltre has it roots
in a mythical and
glorious past. It
used to be a retic
center during the
years that proceeded
our era. It became a
Roman city hall
during the first
half of the first
century BC. After
that, it went under
the Longobard
domination, the
power of the Count
Bishop, the presence
of many landlords of
Veneto and finally
under the Venetian
Serenissima
domination. Despite
all of the troubles
that the city went
through (in
particular, the
robbery and the
fires that took
place during the
first years of the
XVI century) this
little town located
in the high Veneto
region, still holds
claim to many
exceptionally
beautiful monuments
and remains. |
| |
|
The old town, which
surrounds the five
hundred year old
Piazza Maggiore,
with its renaissance
buildings, the old
theater, the Coat of
Arms Hall, the
Alboino castle. From
here, many roads and
tiny streets begin
where we can find
beautiful frescoes,
buildings, elegant
double lancet
windows, seats made
of engraved stones
and views which
bring us back to
ancient and almost
forgotten times.

Outside the city: The sanctuary of Saint Vittore e Corona |
| |
 |
|
The sanctuary (12th-15th century), dedicated to Saints Victor and Corona, outside the city, and is one of the most important Romanesque edifices in the Veneto. It shows a mix of Eastern and Renaissance styles, and is home to some 14th century Giottoesque frescoes. Sculptures include the martyrium that houses the relics of the two Eastern saints and a small statue of St. Victor. Learn more.. |
