The museum is in the
Old Bishop’s Palace
of Feltre, built in
the late 13th
century and
subsequently
renovated, and
contains 90 works
including
masterpieces by
Jacopo Tintoretto,
Sebastiano Ricci and
Andrea Brustolon.

Of
particular
note are
the
5th-century
Chalice
of
Deacon Orso, believed to be
the oldest
Eucharistic chalice
in the West, the
Lombard Paderno
pluteus, rich in
early Christian
symbolism, two 13th
century silver
astylar crosses, the
reliquary bust of
St. Sylvester by the
Tuscan goldsmith
Antonio di Salvi, a
post Byzantine cross
from 1542, and the
painting of San
Gerolamo by Luca
Giordano. |

Il Museo diocesano
di Belluno-Feltre
ha sede nell’antico
vescovado di Feltre:
l’edificio sorge in
splendida posizione
all’interno della
cittadella, sul
limite occidentale
della cinta murata,
in pendant rispetto
al Castello.
Edificio di notevoli
dimensioni, ha visto
accrescimenti e
sistemazioni
effettuati nel corso
dei secoli: sulle
antiche porzioni
medioevali (sorte
probabilmente su
strutture ancora
precedenti) si sono
infatti sovrapposti
gli adattamenti, gli
ampliamenti, i
rifacimenti seguiti
alla guerra
cambraica del 1510,
le migliorie e le
decorazioni
apportate dai vari
vescovi che si
susseguirono
nell’occupazione
della grande sede
episcopale. |
