Prepare for one of the most magical days of your journey as you venture into the legendary Tuscan countryside! Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through landscapes that have inspired artists and poets for centuries—endless rolling hills painted in shades of green and gold, rows of cypress trees standing like sentinels, and ancient stone farmhouses basking in the warm Italian sun. Your first stop is San Gimignano, the 'Medieval Manhattan,' where fourteen medieval towers pierce the sky, remnants of a time when wealthy families competed to build the tallest structures. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets, browse artisan shops, and sample the town's famous Vernaccia wine and world-class gelato. Next, journey to Siena, one of Italy's most beautiful medieval cities. Stand in the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse race has been run since medieval times, and admire the soaring Torre del Mangia and the stunning striped cathedral. But the best is yet to come! In the afternoon, you'll visit a traditional Tuscan vineyard nestled among the Chianti hills. Tour the cellars where wine ages in oak barrels, learn about centuries-old winemaking traditions, and then settle in for a tasting of exceptional local wines paired with regional delicacies—pecorino cheese, cured meats, and fresh bread drizzled with golden olive oil. As the sun sets over the vineyards, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, you'll understand why Tuscany is considered paradise on earth. Return to Florence with memories—and perhaps a bottle or two—to treasure forever.
Return to Florence in the evening.
Your final full day in Florence promises to be extraordinary as you dive deeper into the artistic treasures of the Renaissance! Begin your morning at the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery, one of the most important art museums on the planet. Walk through halls lined with masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Caravaggio, and countless other geniuses who revolutionized art. Stand mesmerized before Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus' and 'Primavera,' works of such beauty they seem to glow from within. Your expert guide brings these paintings to life, revealing the stories, scandals, and innovations behind each brushstroke. After this artistic feast, experience another Florentine tradition: the art of leather craftsmanship. Visit a traditional leather workshop where skilled artisans demonstrate techniques passed down through generations. Watch as they transform supple leather into beautiful bags, belts, and accessories, and perhaps create your own unique souvenir to take home. The afternoon is yours to explore Florence at your own rhythm. Perhaps climb to the top of the Duomo for panoramic views, get lost in the charming Oltrarno district, hunt for treasures in the San Lorenzo market, or simply sit in a piazza with a cappuccino and watch Florentine life unfold around you. Arrivederci Italia! 🇮🇹
The Renaissance & Flavors of Northern Italy
Northern Italy enjoys a Mediterranean-to-continental climate. Spring (April–June) brings mild temperatures between 55–75°F (13–24°C) with occasional rain showers—perfect for walking tours. Summer (July–August) can be warm, reaching 85–95°F (29–35°C), especially in Florence and Bologna. Fall (September–October) offers pleasant temperatures around 55–75°F (13–24°C) with beautiful autumn colors across Tuscany. We recommend layering, as mornings and evenings can be cooler, especially in Verona and the Tuscan countryside.
We recommend comfortable walking shoes with good support (you'll be walking on cobblestones daily), lightweight and breathable clothing, a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings, a rain jacket or compact umbrella, sunscreen and sunglasses, a refillable water bottle, a small daypack for excursions, and a modest shawl or scarf for visiting churches. For the cooking class, wear something you don't mind getting a little flour on! Also bring any necessary medications and a universal power adapter (Italy uses Type C/L plugs).
U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days in Italy or the Schengen Area. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Europe. We strongly recommend checking the latest entry requirements with the U.S. State Department or Italian consulate before your trip, as regulations can change.
This tour involves moderate daily walking, typically 2–4 miles per day on cobblestone streets, uneven surfaces, and occasional stairs. You should be comfortable walking for extended periods and standing during guided tours. Some sites, like climbing the Duomo in Florence, are optional and more strenuous. If you have mobility concerns, please contact us so we can discuss how to best accommodate your needs.
The tour includes daily breakfast at your hotel and 4 group dinners at carefully selected local restaurants. Lunches and the remaining dinners are on your own, giving you the freedom to explore Italy's incredible food scene independently. If you have dietary restrictions or allergies (vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerant, etc.), please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you at all included meals and during the cooking class.
We book centrally located 4-star hotels throughout the tour, chosen for their comfort, location, and authentic Italian character. All rooms include private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and daily breakfast. Staying in the heart of each city means you can easily explore on your own during free time without needing transportation.
While travel insurance is not mandatory, we strongly recommend it. A comprehensive travel insurance policy can cover trip cancellation, medical emergencies abroad, lost luggage, and travel delays. Medical care in Italy can be expensive for non-EU citizens, so having coverage provides important peace of mind. We suggest purchasing insurance shortly after booking your trip.
Italy uses the Euro (€). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. However, we recommend carrying some cash for smaller purchases, market vendors, gelato shops, and tipping. ATMs are readily available in all cities on the itinerary. Notify your bank before traveling to avoid any card blocks.
Tipping in Italy is not as customary as in the U.S., but it is appreciated. A service charge (coperto) is often included in restaurant bills. For exceptional service, rounding up or leaving 5–10% is a kind gesture. For your tour director and driver, a tip at the end of the tour is customary and greatly appreciated—suggested amounts will be provided in your pre-departure information packet.
Absolutely! Many travelers choose to arrive a day or two early in Verona or stay extra days in Florence after the tour ends. We can help arrange additional hotel nights and suggest activities for your extended stay. Just let us know when you book so we can coordinate your airport transfers accordingly.
Our groups are intentionally kept small to ensure a personalized and intimate experience. Typical group sizes range from 15 to 30 travelers. This allows for better access to sites, more meaningful interactions with local guides, and a comfortable pace throughout the journey.
Yes! The cooking class in Bologna is designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced home cooks. Our local chef guides you step by step through the process of making fresh pasta and traditional Bolognese dishes. It's a fun, hands-on experience focused on enjoyment and learning—no prior cooking experience needed.
Your tour director is trained to handle emergencies and will assist you in accessing medical care if needed. Italy has excellent healthcare facilities in all the cities we visit. We recommend carrying a copy of your insurance card, any prescription medications with their original labels, and a list of emergency contacts. The European emergency number is 112.
